Explaining Brazil #316: Taking stock of the G20 Summit in Rio
The G20 Summit, which brought leaders of the world’s biggest economies together in Rio de Janeiro this week, produced a final declaration on Monday evening, the eve of its last session.
On Tuesday, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva handed over leadership of the Group of 20 to Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa, and set off for the federal capital Brasília, where he will meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping, who is in Brazil for a state visit.
This week, we discuss the results of Brazil’s G20 presidency, and cast a glance toward that encounter between Lula and Xi.
