🌍 The trade route less traveled
The escalating trade war is prompting Brazil to diversify its foreign trade. Africa could be a good place to find opportunities
Africa could be key part of new, modern Brazilian trade strategy

Brazilian companies exported USD 15.8 billion to African countries in 2024 — a 20% increase from the previous year — while importing USD 8.3 billion from the continent. Despite the uptick, trade experts say the relationship remains far below its full potential.
However, as geopolitical tensions are prompting countries to rethink and diversify their commercial ties, Brazil has spotted new opportunities to deepen its engagement with the continent that is home to some of the world’s fastest-growing economies and populations.
“The war in Ukraine and disruptions in Red Sea shipping caused by the Gaza conflict are pushing African countries to seek new suppliers and trade routes,” said Rui Mucaje, president of Afrochamber, a trade body representing African nations in Brazil since 1972.
“Brazil can benefit by expanding exports and strengthening its position as a reliable supplier of food, energy, bio-inputs and tropical technology,” he told The Brazilian Report.
