Brazil could soon become the world’s top agricultural exporter

The United States exported USD 171.3 billion in agricultural products in 2025, 2.8% less than the year before, according to the US Department of Agriculture. Meanwhile, Brazil exported USD 169.2 billion in farming goods, a 3% increase from 2024, according to the country’s Agriculture Ministry.

The US has long been the world's leading agricultural exporter, with Brazil typically ranking second (when the European Union is not counted as a single bloc). But the gap between the two is narrowing, and most experts who track global farm trade say the trends only point in one direction.

Directly comparing the two countries isn’t easy because of differences in methodology, above all, whether more processed goods count as agricultural exports, or if the total should only include raw commodities. But the broad picture is consistent: Brazil’s exports are on the rise, while the US’s are slowing down…
