Attention on El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele last week was focused on his mysterious role in the Venezuelan crisis, including an alleged meeting with ideological foe Nicolás Maduro.
Flying under the radar, meanwhile, was another story linked to the innovative yet controversial Salvadoran leader: the relocation of one of the biggest cryptocurrency companies in the world, Tether, to the small Central American nation.
Tether. The firm has a considerable role in the crypto ecosystem thanks to its creation of a virtual stablecoin pegged to the US dollar. One Tether token is equivalent to one dollar, with the added advantage that it can be traded and transferred on exchanges and personal wallets.
