Far-right former President Jair Bolsonaro underwent major abdominal surgery on Sunday. According to his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, his condition is stable and he has since been transferred from intensive care to a regular ward. He showed no signs of infection or pain, and did not require a blood transfusion, according to his medical team.

Doctors performed an exploratory laparotomy to treat an intestinal obstruction caused by adhesions and a kink in the small intestine. The surgery lasted 12 hours and involved the reconstruction of the former president’s abdominal wall.
