No Group of Death, but Brazil will have to contend with hot World Cup climate

While the sights of Donald Trump being awarded the inaugural “FIFA Peace Prize,” The Village People forgetting to sing the first verse of YMCA, and a bemused Lauryn Hill pleading with a seated corporate crowd to “make some noise” will live long in the memory for some, for Brazil, Friday’s 2026 World Cup draw was important for one thing only: finding out the national team’s three group stage opponents.
On their path to the as-yet elusive sixth World Cup (known as the hexa in Portuguese), Brazil discovered yesterday that their first obstacles will be Morocco, Haiti and Scotland — a group that comes with plenty of challenge and narrative, but is far from a feared “group of death” scenario.
What’s more, thanks to the geographical spread of next year’s tournament, being hosted in the US, Canada and Mexico, the letter of Brazil’s group was arguably as important as their three opponents. Heading Group C means…
