Brazil's betting ban fills shopping carts, but household debt remains

Grocery sales in Brazil have risen sharply since online betting went dark, according to the country's supermarket lobby. The Brazilian Supermarket Association (Abras) says food retail sales grew 6.5% nationwide in the week of Oct. 5-11 compared with the same week of 2025, and 6.3% the following week.
