The first challenge for any COP climate summit is deciding what to negotiate. And judging by day one in Brazil’s symbolic capital, Belém, COP30 has gotten off to a great start.

The delegations in attendance managed to reach a consensus on the conference agenda in the early hours of Monday morning, striking a deal that COP30 President André Corrêa do Lago described as “fantastic.” The agreement meant negotiations could begin right away, avoiding the lost hours and days seen at previous COPs…
