Bankruptcy protection filings in Brazil keep going up and up

Amid high borrowing costs and skittish lenders, Brazil ended 2025 with 5,680 companies undergoing bankruptcy protection proceedings, a 24% surge from the year before.
And the total is the largest in recent years, according to nationwide monitoring since 2023 by consultancy firm RGF, using data from the Federal Revenue Service to measure the number of large, midsize and small companies that filed for bankruptcy protection and had their requests accepted by courts.
Overall, 1,665 companies requested court-supervised reorganization proceedings in 2025, while 561 ended them, either by resuming unsupervised operations or effectively filing for bankruptcy…
