The number of work visas granted to foreigners in Brazil in 2024 has reached its highest level in nearly a decade, surpassing pre-pandemic figures. Global mobility experts attribute the surge to business expansions fueling demand for technical expertise in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure and technology.
Brazil’s relatively low cost of living compared with developed economies has also drawn foreign professionals. Many expatriates report financial improvements after relocating to Brazil, according to a recent report by HR service provider Mauve Group, which polled 600 expatriates working in Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.
The report found that 60% of expatriates in Brazil were happier with their salaries and benefits than in their home countries. Beyond remuneration, health care benefits can be a major draw. “Brazil offers a well-established health care system, which can be a compelling factor for workers who may face higher health care costs or limited access in their home countries,” said Jaime Bustamante, Mauve’s business development representative for Latin America.
Notably, 74% of expatriates rated their personal quality of life as better in Brazil than in their home countries.
