The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) on Monday sent a formal letter to Supreme Court Chief Justice Edson Fachin in which it urged the court to end its so-called “Fake News Inquiry.”
The OAB argued that, while the investigation, which has already run for seven years, began as a shield for democratic institutions, it has since turned into a constitutional quagmire. “The excessive elasticity of the investigative scope undermines legal predictability, weakens legal certainty and projects to society the perception of an investigative field lacking sufficiently stable boundaries,” the association said in its letter.
