While serving as the governor of Rio de Janeiro until March of this year, Cláudio Castro complained on numerous occasions about court decisions that restricted police raids in favelas. The shoe is now on the other foot, as law enforcement knocked on Castro’s front door this morning.

Federal Police agents carried out search-and-seizure warrants at the former governor's home as part of a broader investigation into oil refinery Refit, Brazil's largest tax debtor.

Feds are also targeting Refit owner Ricardo Magro, who lives in Miami. Brazilian authorities have asked Interpol to issue a red notice to seek his arrest. Agents carried out a total of 17 search warrants, removed seven public officials from their posts and froze BRL 52 billion (USD 10.25 billion) in assets.
