Brazil’s two biggest egg producers set their sights on the US

This year began with a flurry of activity in Brazil’s egg industry, as the country’s two largest producers — Mantiqueira and Granja Faria — each struck major international deals, signaling a new era of consolidation and global ambition.

Last week, Brazilian meatpacking giant JBS announced the completion of its acquisition of a nearly 50% stake in Mantiqueira, marking its entry into the egg business. Originally disclosed in January, the deal also represents Mantiqueira’s first major push into international markets, starting with the United States.

Around the same time, Global Eggs — the parent company of Granja Faria — unveiled a USD 1.1 billion deal to acquire Hillandale Farms, one of the largest egg producers in the United States. The company is also planning an initial public offering in New York.
