Brazilian milk producers want import restrictions as prices tumble

Brazilian milk producers are sounding the alarm over powdered milk imports, arguing that purchases from Argentine and Uruguayan farmers are undermining the local market. The concern comes amid surging domestic output, which has weighed down on prices and squeezed margins.

Lawmakers from Congress's agribusiness caucus recently filed a petition asking the House Agriculture Committee to investigate the potential damage from foreign suppliers, in a bid to put pressure on the federal government to restrict imports.
