Washington visit on the horizon after Lula phones Trump

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spent roughly 50 minutes on the phone yesterday with US President Donald Trump. The Brazilian government released a statement about the conversation, details of which were confirmed to The Brazilian Report by a White House official. The call caps an intense month of diplomatic activity by the Brazilian president, who has held talks with 13 foreign counterparts since the start of the year.
Yesterday’s phone call addressed bilateral relations, Trump’s controversial Board of Peace, trade tensions, and the Venezuelan crisis following the removal of Nicolás Maduro by US forces on January 3.
