A Mercosur summit where trade is the only common language

The United Kingdom has signaled its interest in a trade deal with Mercosur, Brazil's Foreign Affairs Ministry revealed at a briefing ahead of the 68th Mercosur summit, which opens in Asunción, the Paraguayan capital, today.
Negotiations would not have to start from scratch. Britain sat inside the European Union's marathon negotiations with Mercosur until it left in 2020, so much of the groundwork survives. “Much of what was already done would be worth using,” said Philip Fox-Drummond Gough, the Foreign Affairs Ministry's economic affairs secretary.
