While Brazilians prepared for the national team's World Cup match against Scotland, Michelle Bolsonaro spent 26 minutes on social media on Wednesday explaining why she had stepped back from the campaign of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party (PL), her stepson, the eldest son of Jair Bolsonaro — anointed to carry the far right into October's presidential election. The explanation doubled as an indictment.

The former first lady said the senator phoned her after she criticized a proposed regional alliance with Ciro Gomes, a longtime Bolsonaro antagonist, and that the call went badly.
