💪 Petrobras gets supersized boost

Petrobras launches new behemoth platform. Lula’s popularity continues to drop. And egg inflation only adds to government pressures

Good morning! At the age of just 18, Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca bagged his first ATP tournament trophy on Sunday, winning the ATP 250 Buenos Aires. But the young tennis ace won’t stop there, taking part in the Rio Open this week in his home city — and looking for a second trophy to double the size of his collection.

Brazil just launched its largest-ever offshore oil platform, marking a significant expansion of its pre-salt oil production capabilities and strengthening its position in global energy markets.

👉 Why it matters. The Almirante Tamandaré platform, operating in the Búzios field off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, can process up to 225,000 barrels of oil and 12 million cubic meters of natural gas daily. According to Brazil’s state-controlled oil firm Petrobras, both numbers are substantially above industry averages.

By the numbers. Situated 180 kilometers off the coast, the platform is set to link with 15 wells — and Petrobras hopes it will significantly boost production in the Búzios field. The Almirante Tamandaré is expected to push output to 1 million barrels per day by late 2025, with the potential to surpass 1.5 million barrels daily.
