The European Central Bank and Brazil's Central Bank on Wednesday announced they have begun assessing whether Pix, Brazil's instant payment system, can be wired directly into TARGET Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS), the Eurosystem's platform for settling instant payments in central bank money.
The ECB's Governing Council approved the study, which will weigh technical, operational, legal, and business questions. Neither announcement sets a launch date.
