Welcome back to Diplomatic Brief, our series featuring interviews with foreign diplomats on the forces that bind — and sometimes divide — their countries and Brazil.

Our guest for this edition is Richard Krpač, consul general of the Czech Republic in São Paulo. Before being posted in Brazil, he served as deputy minister for the International and European Cooperation Section at the Justice Ministry in Prague, as well as consul general in Toronto and Shanghai, and consul in Washington DC.

Krpač joined the Czech consulate in February 2025. One of the first things he did upon arrival in Brazil was to visit the grave of his childhood hero, Ayrton Senna.

This interview was edited for brevity and clarity.
