Questions mount over Justice Toffoli’s oversight of Banco Master case

Criminal investigations into Banco Master — the lender liquidated by Brazil’s Central Bank in late 2025 — have become a ticking time bomb for the country’s political establishment, with the potential to inflict damage across all branches of government, as The Brazilian Report has previously explained. The latest revelations, however, strike even closer to the heart of the matter: the very Supreme Court justice overseeing the case, Dias Toffoli.
From the outset, eyebrows were raised when Justice Toffoli traveled on a private jet with one of the bank’s lawyers shortly after being randomly assigned as rapporteur of the investigations. His subsequent decision to place the case under seal, as well as moves widely seen as putting pressure on the Central Bank, only deepened the sense of unease…
