Brazil registered a USD 74.6 billion trade surplus in 2024, according to newly released data from the Industry and Trade Ministry. Although this marks the second-largest surplus on record and exceeded market expectations, it also reflects a decline of nearly 25% from the previous year.
What's happening. China’s economic woes (marked by sluggish consumer spending, high debt levels among local governments, trade uncertainty and a still shaky property market) have pushed commodity prices down. The Asian giant is the top buyer of Brazilian basic products.
