Welcome back to Diplomatic Brief, a series featuring conversations with foreign diplomats about the forces that bind — and at times divide — their countries and Brazil.
Our guest today is Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Uruguay’s ambassador to Brazil since 2025. A politician with a background in agriculture, he served two terms in the Senate, was Uruguay’s vice president from 2005 to 2009 under Tabaré Vázquez, and later returned to government as foreign minister in 2015.
This interview has been edited for brevity and clarity.
