Bolsonaro gets ankle monitor, Lula blasts Trump ‘blackmail’

Federal Police carried out precautionary measures against former President Jair Bolsonaro on Friday morning, and he will now be required to wear an electronic ankle monitor. Marshals are also executing search warrants at locations linked to Bolsonaro and his Liberal Party (PL).

The country’s Supreme Court deemed Bolsonaro a flight risk following an international rift sparked by US President Donald Trump, who recently imposed 50% tariffs on Brazilian exports. Trump has used the tariffs as a lever to pressure Brazil into leniency for Bolsonaro, who faces an imminent trial over allegations that he orchestrated a coup attempt. If convicted, the former president could face a sentence of more than 40 years in prison…
