Good morning! Brazil was named “Creative Country of the Year” and will be the guest of honor at the 2025 Cannes Lions Festival, the world’s top advertising event, organizers announced Wednesday. The 72nd edition will be held June 16-20 in Cannes, France.

In a unanimous decision broadcast live to the nation, a five-justice panel of Brazil’s Supreme Court accepted criminal charges against former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven of his top allies for allegedly plotting a coup to hold on to power after losing the 2022 election. Their plan allegedly included assassinating current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, and Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who oversees the case.
👉 Why it matters. The court’s decision formally makes Bolsonaro a defendant in a criminal case. This will be the first trial for an attempted coup in Brazilian republican history — every previous coup attempt in Brazil was either successful or later pardoned.
