Brazil saw a notable drop in violent deaths last year, reaching the lowest rate since 2012, according to the 2025 Brazilian Public Security Yearbook published on Thursday by the Brazilian Forum on Public Safety (FBSP). The number of intentional violent deaths — which includes homicides, robberies followed by death and police killings — fell 5.4% to 44,127 in 2024, or 20.8 per 100,000 people. It represents a 25% decrease from the 2017 peak.
