Brazil urges BRICS to unite in rebuke of Trump’s trade tactics

Brazil and China used a virtual summit of BRICS leaders this week to deliver pointed criticism of US President Donald Trump, accusing Washington of undermining global rules through unilateral tariffs and military posturing.

The 90-minute meeting, convened Monday under Brazil’s rotating chairmanship, brought together leaders or representatives from China, Russia, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates and others. It came just weeks ahead of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and two months after BRICS leaders last gathered in Rio de Janeiro.
