Colombian politics were rocked once more this week when a news report revealed that President Gustavo Petro’s former foreign minister, Álvaro Leyva, had asked for US support to overthrow the government.
The story was published by Spanish newspaper El País, backed by a flurry of audio messages and corroborating testimonies. It said the 82-year-old diplomat tried to contact politicians close to President Donald Trump, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to exert “international pressure” against the left-wing leader and replace him with Vice President Francia Márquez…
