One of Brazil’s principal goals of this COP30, the finalization of global adaptation indicators, is running the risk of failure, as concerns cropped up for the host nation on the conference’s fourth day.

African and Arab nations have called for a two-year postponement to an agreement on a list of 100 indicators designed to track climate adaptation progress, which was slated to be one of the headline achievements of this COP30, being held in the Amazonian city of Belém from Monday until next Friday.

For Brazil, an agreement on these crucial metrics is indispensable, and head negotiator Liliam Chagas said the country will do “everything [it] can, within the time available” to get the adaptation indicators over the line.
