EU-Mercosur agreement clears Brazil’s Congress

On Wednesday, Brazil's Senate unanimously ratified the trade agreement signed between Mercosur and the European Union. The agreement had already cleared the House last week, and now goes to the desk of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, awaiting final approval.
While the deal faces strong opposition in Europe, it has moved fast on this side of the Atlantic. The parliaments of Argentina and Uruguay have already approved the creation of what is set to be the world’s largest free-trade zone. In Paraguay…
