Comeback win puts Milei back in the driver’s seat

Argentina’s libertarian President Javier Milei had a tough 2025. Even so, he will end the year on a high note after securing a midterm win with 41% of the vote (against 33% for the Peronist opposition) that will open the door to significant reforms in Congress.
After multiple scandals this year which ranged from the launch of a cryptocurrency scam to a top candidate’s ties with drug trafficking, the government’s popularity had eroded. According to polling firm Atlas Intel, Milei’s net approval rating slid from neutral in June to nearly minus 16 points in October, with 56% of voters disapproving of his performance in office.
