Nickel deal in Brazil thrown into global disputes

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has requested that the Office of the United States Trade Representative investigate an ongoing deal in Brazil between South African-British mining conglomerate Anglo American, and MMG, a Chinese state-controlled company.

The complaint was presented as part of a set of public comments under the US government’s Section 301 investigationinto what the Trump administration calls Brazil’s “unfair trade practices” — paired with a 50% tariff on a wide range of Brazilian goods.
