After weeks resisting the inevitable, Supreme Court Justice Dias Toffoli finally stepped down as rapporteur of the Banco Master case on Thursday night, following a tense three-hour closed-door meeting with his colleagues.
The resignation came one day after reports that the Federal Police delivered a roughly 200-page dossier to Chief Justice Edson Fachin — a document that investigators say goes beyond establishing conflict of interest and reportedly presents evidence that Toffoli may have committed crimes in his personal relationship with Master.
The Master case is arguably the biggest banking fraud in Brazilian history, involving dozens of billions of reais in schemes orchestrated by disgraced CEO Daniel Vorcaro, whose fingerprints appear on all sorts of corruption scandals. But the real story is quickly mutating into…
