Brazil celebrates positive Trump meeting

The first formal encounter between Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Donald Trump finally happened on Sunday, on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
The icebreaker came after months of acrimony, including Washington’s July decision to slap 50% tariffs on a wide range of Brazilian goods, initiate a trade investigation against the country and impose sanctions on Brazilian authorities over the Supreme Court’s conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro (for plotting a coup following his 2022 electoral defeat).
