Judge rules Uribe bribed witnesses to conceal ties with paramilitary

Colombia’s two-term former President Álvaro Uribe, arguably the country’s most influential political leader since the Cold War era, was convicted of bribery and procedural fraud in a case that will further harm his legacy.

A lower circuit judge ruled that Uribe was involved in a scheme to tamper with witnesses through bribes and political pressure, aiming to conceal his links with a paramilitary organization.
