Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes on Monday placed former President Jair Bolsonaro under house arrest,1 escalating a political standoff that is increasingly reverberating beyond the country’s borders.
Moraes said Bolsonaro had shown “blatant disregard” for court-ordered restrictions, justifying the decision by warning that further violations could land the former president not in home detention but in police custody.
