Bolsonaro allies escalate showdown after house arrest order

Congress’s return from the mid-year recess quickly devolved into a raucous standoff. Far-right lawmakers occupied the presiding tables in both the House and Senate to protest Monday’s house arrest order against Jair Bolsonaro after the former president, who is about to stand trial for allegedly orchestrating a coup attempt, disrespected a Supreme Court-ordered social media ban during the weekend.
