In closing arguments that bring Brazil’s most consequential criminal case in decades closer to trial, the country’s top prosecutor has asked the Supreme Court to convict former President Jair Bolsonaro and his some of closest allies for orchestrating a failed coup d’état aimed at overturning the 2022 election.
Filed late Monday by Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet, the more than 500-page document is the last formal step before Brazil’s highest court can set a date to decide the fate of Bolsonaro and the seven co-defendants at the core of what prosecutors describe as an armed criminal organization…
