Agribusiness lobby pressures government to rework climate plan

Brazil’s agribusiness lobby is pressuring the federal government to revise its Climate Plan, an extensive framework that outlines how the country intends to meet its climate commitments in the coming years.

The plan has been under development since 2023 by a committee representing 23 ministries, led by the Environment Ministry. A draft released for public consultation in late July drew thousands of contributions from civil society and business sectors, which are now under review. The government hopes to unveil the final version at the UN Climate Conference (COP30), which Brazil will host in Belém starting November 10.
