Brazilian planemaker Embraer is betting on Europe's surging defense spending to expand orders for its two military aircraft

Amid a wave of global instability, defense spending soared to a new high last year, with the European Union alone earmarking more than 800 billion euros for rearmament efforts. Brazil has largely remained on the sidelines of this global arms race, but one of its leading companies has spotted an opportunity in the shifting landscape.

Embraer, the Brazilian aerospace manufacturer, is expanding its Defense & Security division across Europe, buoyed by a string of new aircraft deals and a growing appetite for alternatives to traditional suppliers.

Last week, Sweden committed to acquiring four C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft, becoming the sixth European country β€” and the ninth overall β€” to make orders for the model. In December, Slovakia signed a letter of intent and named the C-390 as its preferred option for future airlift needs.
