Lula wants a new VP. Why?

Even among supporters of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, there is little dispute about the pivotal role Vice President Geraldo Alckmin played in securing Lula’s slim 2022 election victory over Jair Bolsonaro. A mild-mannered establishment conservative with close ties to religious organizations and a track record of pro-market policies, Alckmin served as a liaison between the government and industrial and agricultural sectors — before and after the election.
