US President Donald Trump’s plan to slap 50% tariffs on all Brazilian imports could deal a devastating blow to Embraer, one of the world’s largest aircraft makers and Brazil’s crown jewel in high-value manufacturing.
“If this plan goes ahead, we foresee an impact similar to the Covid crisis,” Francisco Gomes Neto, Embraer’s chief executive, told reporters Tuesday after meeting with Brazilian officials and industry leaders.
During the pandemic, Embraer’s revenue dipped by roughly 10%, forcing deep cuts to its workforce.
