US extends sanctions to Moraes’s family, deepening rift with Brazil

Bilateral relations between Brazil and the United States sank deeper into turmoil on Monday, as Washington extended sanctions on Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes to include his wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes, and the family’s holding company. The move was carried out under the Global Magnitsky Act, considered a sort of “financial death sentence” for its targets.
