Brazil builds massive digital tax platform to anchor reform

Brazil is building a digital platform of unprecedented scale to support its landmark tax reform, approved by Congress in late 2023. The project, overseen by the Federal Revenue Service and state-owned IT giant Serpro, will replace a fragmented consumption tax framework with a unified value-added tax system.
Officials describe the initiative as a technological behemoth that will dwarf even Pix, the country’s ubiquitous instant payment system.
